Glorious Tomatoes
HARVEST! that is how we are spending most of our days. This year it is even more satisfying, knowing the amount of extra work has gone into getting crops to flourish thru irrigating. It’s been a while since we have had such an amazing tomato season. Huge, flavorful and nearly all perfect! It’s a real treat to see the shining colors in stacks of crates. As long as the nights stay above 40, we will have more to harvest. Next week, we are going to pull some green tomatoes. We don’t want to get caught with a cold night and 1000’s of pounds left in field. So prepare yourselves for some green tomato experimenting!

Abundance
It’s insane how much preparation goes into a season and then how fast it flies by. Today is week 15 of our 20 week CSA! It’s just nuts, how things come and go so quickly after months of pampering. For example, we seeded corn June 10, watered and loved on it for 12 weeks (3 whole months!) and then in just 10 days it was all harvested and nearly all eaten. Now we are preparing to advertise for our Winter Shares (keep your eyes peeled for info!).
It is still so so so so (x 1000) dry but also so beautiful. I am settling into the sunny days and warm, clear evenings; enjoying time spent outdoors with friends and working in comfortable conditions. I am extremely grateful for our entire crew who pushed through the heat advisories and bad air quality days to get us where we are in the season now. Literally bucket loads of delicious, nutritious products for us to enjoy. We hope you too are amazed by the colors and smells each pickup brings.

Happy Pigs
These silly love bugs wanted me to pass along a message: “We love apples!” if you have a rouge tree in your neighborhood and need to make a few fuzzy friends, the pigs would luuuuv your offering. They are friendly and gregarious this year albeit a little pushy when it comes to feeding time. Feel free to toss your apples straight into the pen, just don’t jump in the pen with them, please. They are getting extra treats this week; now that the corn harvest is done, they get the stalks. Sounds fibrous, but they are really juicy and sweet! We will also have some for sale next month for decorating (the pigs said they would share).
This Week’s Bounty: lettuce, kale, cukes, summer sq, eggplant (full shares), onions, a few corn, a few melons, beans?, sweet peppers (!), poblano peppers, hot peppers, tomatoes (of course), basil
