Anna harvesting corn

Corn!  My Ohio roots are singing.  The crop has looked gorgeous all season, but I swear ripened one kernel at a time, lol.  But that is ok, it’s sweet, sweet, crunch was well worth the wait.  We should have a good amount of it over the next 2 weeks as all three varieties ripen pretty much at the same time.  We do like planting corn for a later harvest, as things like summer squash and cucumbers slow down, a sweet ear of corn can hit the spot!  We work hard to have a diverse array of items throughout and to keep your taste buds interested  : )  Sweet peppers have made their appearance this week too.  The cooler nights have slowed their ripening a bit, but they are a’ comin’.

23rd Anniversary at Squirrel light

Benny, Zach and I headed off-farm for a few days this weekend to celebrate our 23rd anniversary.  We had a lovely time of camping, clamming, hiking and eating.  (Benny also chased seagulls.)  It felt really nice to have a break and am grateful for the crew who kept all the farm life happy while I was away (thank you!).  Pulling back in the driveway Monday afternoon, it was clearly evident how much drier it is here than other places in Maine.  The storms seem to miss us and I don’t see any rain in the future.  sigh.  So round and round we will keep going with irrigation.  This evening we are hooking up the newly dug well to the system which will help alleviate some pressure from the current wells.  But, if you have friends that could gift us an inch or two of soft rain, I would gladly accept it.

Hope you are feeling lucky in abundance and enjoying your meals.  We here at Little Ridge have fun harvesting for you!
