Anna and Benny Picking Peas

Greetings!  We have been soooooo busy.  Harvest is starting to take up our every day (which is wonderful), but we also have to squeeze lots of other important tasks: in transplanting, pig care and weeding (bummer).  If we only knew we would have a forest of peas this year, we could have planted half as many!  It’s a tasty problem to have although picking can take over 6 person hours!!  Luckily we are standing up straight and the plants are soft and sweet, rather than our next client….

Zucchini and Summer Squash

These prickly plants are also starting (yay!).  Harvesting them is like diving through sandpaper (boo).  Not much fun, but we are glad you enjoy them.  We try to discover all of their hidey spots, but sometimes we miss them.  Those rouge honkers are perfect for noodles.  Cucumbers are on the horizon….

Romaine lettuce

And then these beautiful gems.  Romaine doesn’t always like to grow here, but this year, they are stellar.  Crunchy and flavorful….perfect for whipping up a homemade Cesar dressing.  The garlic scapes and sugar snap peas are great compliments.  They’ve decided to mature all at once, so you’re getting extra this week : )  Summer salad for hot and humid weather!

Benny and the PYO Flower Garden

Benny, I, the crew and Zach welcome members to the PYO Flower garden!  We hope you enjoyed our video on how to pick.   My niece, Kayla, and I had fun making it.  I am now on TikTok (eyeroll).  Please pick lightly the next couple weeks as the garden continues to fill out…..and don’t forget to return the snips : )

Take a walk around the farm!  It’s really beautiful right now.   And chances are, you won’t see all the imperfections I do (hahaha).  The raspberries are looking glorious and are wanting to be picked.  The humidity is rough on berries, especially raspberries.  We do not usually pre pick raspberries to sell, so be sure to pop out there!  The pigs are still way out, but we are going to move them to a new field which will be right on your way to the raspberries.  The pigs will be so excited to have even more visitors!
