onion seeds

The 2025 growing season has begun!!! We fired up the green house (meaning we turned the heater on) the 2nd week of March.  Thousands of onion seeds were the first to be planted.  So tiny.  Yet so full of life, nutrition and sustenance.  For those who have been Happy Farmer blog readers for a while know that I am enamored by the power of a seed.  Literally THOUSANDS of pounds come out of a small box of seeds I order each year.  It’s the most miraculous thing that happens here on this farm and I am so grateful we have an abundance of seed source available to us.  I wouldn’t be able to hold all the onions that will grow out of that small handful of seeds pictured above.  Let there be hope.

Leek sprouts

And, voila!  The leeks have sprouted.  This photo is actually from 2 weeks ago, so the greens are now soft and waving on the breeze.  Greenhouse work is one of my favorite tasks and from now until mid-June we are in there multiple times a day watering and often for the entire day seeding and planting.  When you come to get your share, be sure to pop out into the back field and check it out!  It’s a lush sea of color and fragrance.

overwintered chinese cabbage

This coming week is the last winter share pick-up.  It will be full of sweetness — fresh spinach greens from the high tunnels, a bit more chinese cabbage and your favorite roots.  THANK YOU to those who joined us this winter.  We hope you are feeling strong after a year of seasonal eating!  No tariffs on these crops : )

With the crazy crazy that happens all around us, know that we are consistently here for you!  Your CSA share will always be brimming with fresh flavor and happily grown produce.  We love to see you walk the fields and snip a bouquet of flowers.  YOU are honestly what keeps our business strong and we appreciate you.  Trust me, our love for you and what we do shows.

Summer signs ups are open!

We have a new pick-up site in Freeport, just north of town.  And we are working to find the best location in the Lewiston Auburn area.

Alsoooooo — we are having loads of SUMMER EVENTS here at the farm this year!!!!

We are still fighting with WordPress plug-ins to get the ticket sales going (if you are an expert, reach out, we would love your help!)

Keep an eye out — we will be advertising for them soon!

Bring your friends and share the love of Little Ridge Farm!
