Seems like overnight the leaves have started to transition to their fall glamour. We are amazed by the hot days and warm nights and are trying to keep everyone’s feet cool with water (animal toes and plant roots). The tomatoes are thinking about slowing down but we are still pulling in a good haul every week. Our high tunnel cukes taste amazing but the yield is underwhelming….we will study a bit this winter and give it another try next year. We are down to the last few melons, delightfully licking our fingers from their juicy sweetness.
Currently we are rolling in sweet peppers and eggplant. Oh the color! I know that eggplant is not a favorite of all, but I encourage you to give in another try. Farm fresh flavors can be a game changer! We like to roast it, make babaganoush or use it as noodles in lasagna. Sometimes these eggplant are quite the characters! They like to grow extra phalanges, noses, a-hem…body parts (we’ll let you decide what it looks like). Who ended up with Hubert No.1? He was positioned brightly at the top of his stack. We love to see pics of happy produce in customers’ kitchens!
We are lucky to have fun & creative neighbors in town who are helping to promote our farm and CSA shares. And we are SO EXCITED to support them! Little River Coffee has amazing drinks, sandwiches and homemade treats. Run by two best friends, it’s the perfect spot to meet a friend or grab something to go! And then, this Monday, the NEW Better Living Center is opening! A health food store right in town, can you believe it?! Run by a Mainer, inspired by his family’s long-time store in Farmington, he and his team are here to help you Live Better. Stop by and give Lisbon some love!
