Benny helping to mulch garlic

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!

What a glorious time of year.  After a wet wet summer, we have been enjoying the blue skies and “easy” working weather.  The garlic is planted and mulched, almost every crop is out of the fields and the hoophouse is full of beautiful greens for the winter.  Next on the list is final farm cleanup, tool washing, hoop house winterizing and strawberry mulching.  Last week was the last “official” week for employees and I am already spending several hours a week in planning mode for next season.  The incredible Farmer to farmer conference, hosted by MOFGA, was last week and today I spent most of the day learning about farm landscape planning at Shepscot General, hosted by Maine Farmland Trust.  It is such a treat and an honor to live in a sate with so many small farm resources AND to feel surrounded by incredible farmers who are happy to help and share ideas.  We all are passionate/conscious about our environment, growing amazing food for our customers and food security for our planet and community.  They’re sometimes hard topics but refreshing to know there is an army of land stewards AND customers who appreciate our hard work. (that’s you!!)

Another amazing thing about Maine is the amount of AMZING product we have!! This week we will have new product available from our friends at ChiGoBee Farm.  Award winning goat cheese can be added to your share as well as goat yogurt, topped with a little Maine wild blueberry smash.  Oh yes.  Delish!

We hope your meals are fulfilling and happy.  We are truly grateful for your love of fresh food.  Know that we put so much heart into our work and believe the good energy of this land is passed to you!

Alvin. Ahhhh sweet Alvin.

We want to extend a huge THAK YOU to those who reached out during the lock-down on Oct 25-27th  Our nervous system was broken and hearts remain sad.  We were gifted lots of helping hands from local Bate’s students to make up for lost harvest hours.  It also served as a much needed cleansing and grounding.  While we are feeling better, we recognize many families in the community are still reeling and will never fully recover from this horrific tragedy.  Know that we hold you in our thoughts and send lots of healing energy.

It’s always good to be kind.  But maybe having a bit more patience and compassion with others is necessary now and moving forward.  We all have things happening in our lives that are sad/stressful/unpleasant and we never know when the person behind the counter is also having a bad day.  Smiles and thanksgiving go a long way and have the power to turn ones feelings around, if only for a minute.  It’s sometimes strangely “easier” to be gruff (I have certainly been guilty of it), but I am challenging myself to be present and “bigger” than me moving forward.

Sending kindness, smiles and gratitude to you and yours.  May you find coziness in unexpected places.
