The skies have been a sight this summer. Beautiful sunsets, Blue moon constellations and dark clouds. Lots of “weather” this year compared to the last 4 California-stlye summers. On one hand it has been a respite from additional labor, which is irrigation, and views full of crispy lawns and wilted plants. On the other hand it has been tough to get around in the soft soil and roots have had a hard time taking up so much water. It’s strange how much needed water can turn to too much so quickly. Yields are certainly lower than usual and standard crops like lettuce and carrots are trying their hardest to grow. As usual, we have been putting CSA first, giving you first choice to bounty, recognizing that your dedication to Little Ridge sustains our yearly cashflow. This summer marks our 14th summer CSA and some of you have been shareholders from the first year, if not within the first few. Your love for Little Ridge does not go unnoticed!! We are grateful for your unwaning support and recognition of OUR dedication to YOU.
I do love to grow peppers! And thankfully they like to grow here : ) Happy to report that the sweet pepper harvest looks good and you will be dining on them the next several weeks! One of my favorite things to do is make meat balls and then roast them with peppers and tomatoes. Oh. so. yum.
This Week’s Bounty: kale, hakurei, purple beans, onion, eggplant, sweet/hot peppers, tomato, red cabbage, corn, dill, parsley, basil
