The Secret Garden

okay, okay you are tired of me talking about how gorgeous it has been outside.  But it is making me feel so uplifted!  So there : )  YOU TOO can enjoy this fine weather, at our Farm Clean-up (9-12) and Potluck (12:30) this Saturday the 26th

Kale is the Word

Fall crops have been so bright and happy.  Most food we plant, we get one harvest and they are done.  Others, like this super star Kale, are planted in late April and produce until the deer find them sometime mid-December.  Planting takes a lot of time with seeding, greenhouse watering, field prep and transplanting; it’s a time saver and a joy to honor the true nature of a plant when it can flourish all season long.  We nurture them with extra water and fertilizer and they gift us soft bright green leaves for over 150 days so far!  Tomatoes, peppers and chard are other long season crops, but there aren’t many.  I know not everyone loves the flavor of kale, but I hope all can appreciate its power : )

This is the Last week for summer shares.  We are SO GRATEFUL to all who have tried new things, made the extra effort to join our CSA and shared your love of good food with us.  We INVITE YOU to carry this joy well through the winter & and join our winter CSA.  It’s just as diverse and flavorful and full of sooooo much vitamin C, you’ll beat any bug off all season long.  I know it seems scary to commit to roots, but this grounding energy, full of earth minerals, natural fiber and antioxidants will make you sleep better, have more energy, save money AND there’s of course the FLAVOR!  (Plus there will be some amazing greens, too!)

If you are ready to feel the best you have ever felt during a Maine Winter, JOIN US in seasonal eating.

Until then, enjoy your last week of summer yums.  See you soon!
