We said farewell to Simon on Thursday July 11th.  He was my first dog as an adult and I couldn’t have asked for a better friend.  I had randomly stopped at the Coastal Humane Society and there he was, barking and jumping like crazy.  He had been found alone on the street and had been at the shelter for a week.  From then on he had a bit of separation anxiety and hated being tied or locked up.  Luckily, we had a farm that allowed him to be with me 24-7 and lots of land for him to roam free.  He was soooo loyal and smart.  He knew right away to chase away any wildlife but never to scare our cats or livestock.  One day I remember working in the pasture with the cows.  Simon was just wandering through the pasture, minding his own business, when the cows decided to chase him.  He didn’t realize it right away and did a double take and then ran like the wind, looking back with panic in his eyes.  So funny.  I think the cows were just playing, but he was like, “whoa, yiiiiiikes!”

I have soooo many sweet memories, photos and stories of Simon.  I loved him with all of me and he kept me afloat when I was feeling low.  I know he touched many of your lives too and I am grateful for all of you who loved him as much as we did.  This is just a sampling of the jillions doggie love photos.   He was a bit camera shy, but we managed to capture his sweet spirit.

After 17 years, I will certainly miss my shadow, but he will still always be with me.  Simply the best.
