We love meeting the natural critters in our fields. This is a sign of a happy garden!! Lots of bugs and soil microbes to eat, plant matter to shade oneself under and an incredible view! Moving into the radish patch is sounding like a great idea : ) We often see butterflies, grasshoppers, spiders, snakes, toads and ladybugs. Birdsong is lovely background music while working. I just had an ornithologist come out to the farm and am excited to hear how many species he found. I will keep you posted. Having mixed habitat promotes beneficial insects and happier veggies!
Things are looking super green this year. Kind of jungle-y, actually. The vegetables (and weeds) have liked this more moderate weather pattern rain, sun, rain, sun…. Early mornings and late evenings (pictured above) are the current schedule to try and work sans heat as much as possible. The humidity is certainly not my favorite, nor my employees, nor Benny’s! But we are doing the best we can, getting plants in, weeded and harvested. New crops (this week summer squash) and happy customers keep us motivated!
Garlic scape puree, many a favorite! The house smelled of it this weekend as I made 46 jars to freeze and sell. They are a wonderful way to extend the garlic season and utilize more of the plant. This sweet necked beauty is the flowering stem of the plant and tastes just scrumptious!
We have BULK scapes and kale for sale this week during pick-up to extend your season with 2 powerhouse foods! We love to see shareholders getting the most of their share. Just a moment of time will give so much future satisfaction.
