I would like to take a week to highlight the muscles, brains and love behind the food we provide for you.  We have a crew of 4 part-time employees this year.  They help in so many ways on the farm, including keeping me sane, happy and motivated!

This happy lady to your left is new to the crew this year and we all think she’s the cutest.  KIRA!  She is a true lover of animals and they know it.  She has already made a “pet pig” with Bluey, our blue-eyed blonde pig and of course Benny thinks she is his favorite Aunt.  She has taken over management of the pre-bagged shares each week and is amazing at it!!

Meet Misty (left), the giggly-est and most camera shy crew member.  She has done just about every job out there, from making wedding cakes to accounting.  Now she can add farming to her list!   A true Lisbon-ite, she has been learning while getting her hands dirty and skin sweaty!  She has also been a huge help packing weekly FarmDrop orders and writing our new farm newsletter, Happy Harvest.  It’s for folks who still are thinking about joining our CSA and need a wee bit more information.  You might see her on Friday during pick-up or when you grab your FarmDrop order.

Heather (right) is one of our workshares this year!  She and her wife, Anna, help out once a week for a portion off their share price.  They both come on harvest mornings and it’s a huge help.  Plus they get an inside peek of the farm and can help us educate others about organic growing and the reality of farming!

Citlalli, or Lali for short, has been with us for 2 years.  She has a love for learning, plants and food and often shares her home-style Mexican cooking with us.  We are lucky to have her on our team and learn from her expertise.  We are hoping to have some on-farm classes at some point in teh next few years, and we hope she will be willing to do some cooking demonstrations.  You might see her in the barn Tuesdays as pick up begins.

This fellow, John, is donning his 4th year with us!  He lives right around the corner from the farm and has been a joy to have here.  He does not make fun of my hair brained engineering attempts and he can appreciate a good effort.  I can always count on him to get a job done well and have patience when I am about to crack : )  Obviously, his patience is strong as he has endured field work with ducklings, a kitten and a puppy.

We also have Mary and Lila who both work one day a week and somehow missed the yearbook photo.  This group has been the most laughable and upbeat crew so far.  It’s a real treat to wake up knowing your gonna love the folks you work with.

I try to be a good manager and I am certainly still learning.  I treat them to a weekly yoga class on the farm and lots of veggies.  This spring we also had a physical therapist come and talk about body mechanics and stretching.  The crew is super into food; if you are interested in saying “thank you”, they appreciate snacks and surprise lunches (feel free to donate $$ that we will use at Little River Coffee or Forage Market : )  We love you!

This Week’s Bounty: lettuce, kale, radish, carrot, chinese cabbage, red/gold beets with greens, scallions, scapes, dill, cilantro, basil snippets

The Farmer’s Table: salad, salad, salad!  with kohl rabi, celeriac and radish : )
