Did you know we have a James Beard nominated chef in our neighborhood!! FLUX Restaurant & Bar in Lisbon Falls is the perfect place for a local burger, fish and chips or one of their specials and hand crafted cocktails. The food is Spectacular yet approachable. Nearly everything is handmade and all is thoughtfully created and prepared. We have had so much fun working with them over the last 5 years; growing crops specially for them and seeing how they use every part of the plant at all different stages. This year we are growing Dwarf Sugar Peas for their edible flowers. Reserve a table at Flux to see how they use them!!
I have never had kids but I am possibly on the cusp of knowing what it is like (?) An hour of management, half hour of positive play and then just when you think they are settled, the younger sibling “pokes” the other and it all starts again. In my case growing up, however, it was always the older sibling who poked….obviously : ) It has been a fun challenge with this crew. Benny is settling in nicely, although top on the list is to get him to stop chasing Alvin. He just wants to play, but Alvin is not always so sure. Today will be quite rainy, adding to the management challenge. Hopefully Mom and Dad are ready for a wet dog later this morning.
The farm is looking beautifully lush. As you can see from the photos, I have been preoccupied with working rather than photography. Focusing on getting the work done and then taking moments to enjoy, this year I have not found my first instinct is to take out my phone. Know that all is well and we are working hard and plants are happy (some looking for more sun, but otherwise happy). I invite you to walk the farm and soak it all in, say hi to the pigs, gossip with the ducks and maybe get a special visit from a kitty. Every year is different and special and delicious in it’s own way. We hope you enjoy.
This Week’s Bounty: lettuce, chard, spinach, greens mix, radish, garlic scapes … maybe scallions plus a red/green chinese cabbage
