The week zoomed by and the blog got pushed behind much farm work!  But here we are, cruising like a puppy in the wind, right through summer solstice!!!  A wonderful time to let go of excess, unneeded fluff and celebrate the present light.  We here at Little Ridge have been soaking in the electric moisture, embracing the cool nights and gawking over the luxurious GREEN!

The weather for transplanting has been IDEAL and a real stress relief for me.  We are still a bit short handed and not having to add “irrigation” to the list has been a blessing.  Transplanting into moist ground, not being instantly sun baked and knowing they are going to be naturally watered in is …. well what’s the word … freeing; allowing nature to take care of these plants who will provide so much nourishment and enjoyment to us.  Gratitude!

I bought 2 new pieces of equipment this winter.  I was sooooo excited about them both.  The transplanter has so far been a bit of a flop (boooo), but this fail mower has been a gem!  This was nearly 3′ tall cover crop (plants we plant to nourish the soil).  Normally I would use the bush hog (rotary mower) and it would drop all the cuttings in to the wheel path.  Not so special when we want the nourishment IN the growing bed, not where we walk!  The flail mower has a series of knives that chop the plants from the top down, dropping the cutting right in the bed, leaving this gorgeous (and yummy smelling) mulch.  I had so much fun, it was a visual feast!

THANK YOU to those who subscribed to the blog — I am having trouble getting the plug-in to work though.  I am hoping to carve out some time next week to get it sorted, so every time we write you, it will end up in your email inbox!  And MAYBE we will work on our timeliness (part time employee welcome!!), so that Tuesday folks will also know what to expect in their share  : )

This Week’s Bounty: lettuce, red chinese cabbage, spinach, red/golden beets with greens, kohl rabi, hakurei turnip, pac choi, lovage, peas for full shares
