Hello! Thank you for joining us!! I thought I would start this season with some intros to Little Ridge Farm. My husband Zach and I have lived here for 20 years. We are both “from away”; me Ohio and Zach mostly Virginia and West Virginia. I have been farming for 24 years now and Zach does environmental consulting in storm water management and helps me with irrigation on the farm.
Our buddy, Simon, has been with us for 15 years and is a wonderful asset to the farm. He has had many tasks over the years, and currently is full time greater during pick up (although sometimes, especially hot days, he is cooling himself on my parents’ tile floor). We have a new pup as well, Benny. As we work on his training (ie to come when he is called) you will see this ball of fluff during pick-up as well! We also have 2 cats, Puffa (black) and Alvin (orange). They are a bit more shy, but still instrumental in rodent control and making us smile. Last but loudest are our 2 egg-laying ducks, Caroline (cream) and LePeep (brown). They often hang out around the barn or the flower garden and give you the day’s gossip. Feel free to tell them your gossip too, but please refrain from chasing them.
Other animals on the farm are the pigs and, arriving late June, turkeys. They both love visitors and grass snacks. Feel free to wander the farm and find them (they move about) but please be mindful not to go in the pen or touch the fence (it is electric).
A wonderful gift to those who pick up their share at Little Ridge Farm, is the free pyo flower garden. It is a labor of love from Zach to you. We will announce when the flowers are ready to pick. Until then, there are some herbs (thyme, oregano, lovage, chives) along the rock wall behind the barn you may pick. have fun!
There will be flowers and tomatoes for sale this week during pick up.
This Week’s Bounty: head lettuce, lettuce mix, arugula, spinach, turnip, asparagus, pac choi, chive flowers, dill, cilantro
