Summer Solstice!

Bright Lights Chard and a Solstice Sun

Wow! Can’t believe the solstice is upon us and the days will begin to wane. The rains keep missing us and the penetrating sun seems harsh at times, but the last few days I have given it grace, in thanksgiving for light. Remembering that we all need light to thrive and that plants are strong and will patiently await the water they are seeking.

Raven planted and mulched

The new hoop house, Raven, is all planted and mulched for summer tomatoes. I am so excited to have this extra space and have been having fun experimenting with crop rotations in the old hoop house, Crow. The crew worked hard, sweating and sneezing, removing the final weeds and spreading straw mulch for moisture retention. Before we know it luscious tomatoes will be ready for harvest.

Happy pigs

The pigs have been enjoying their new patch of rye and vetch and the company of strawberry pickers. They are always happy to have visitors, especially when there might be some snacks involved. Be sure to visit the pigs and the berry patch soon — the picking is superb!

This Week’s Bounty: lettuce, spicy arugula (no water=spice : ), radish, scallion, broccoli, chard, beets with greens, dill, cilantro, basil snippets
