Long Days of Transplanting
With the heat at bay for a few days, we have been racing to get plants in the ground; this weekend was cucumbers, Monday was melons and winter squash. We started on the corn but ran out of time, so Wednesday will be corn and peppers and Thursday sweet potatoes. The bit of rain last night (.47″!!!) was soooooo welcome and I am sure the plants were dancing with ecstatic joy. I know I was … I even got up out of bed in the middle of the night to go for a short walk to feel the soft drops, smell the moisture and listen to the music. We watched Raya and the Last Dragon last weekend and the dragons brought harmony and rain to the humans. When it rained, the dragons would use the raindrops as stepping stones to bound through the sky. It brought a wonderful image to my mind as I stood happily in the rain last night ;)

Lots of new veggies popping in this week!!
One of my favorite head lettuce varieties is ready this week! Harvesting these brilliantly colored, dense heads is always satisfying. They are a butterhead type and so are crunchy and sweet. The hot and dry has bought a little rougher texture to the lettuce the last couple weeks, but I am hopeful this rain will soften things up!
And yeah!!! strawberries are ready!!! What a fun morning picking berries, so beautiful and sweet. The patch is looking great and we hope you come a pickin’! PYO (for CSA shareholders only — one of the many perks) will open this weekend!
